New Music This Week (w/e 01/12/17)

Pearl Jam – Obey The Law Of The Heart

This is Pearl Jam’s first new music in 4 years, and appears on the soundtrack for the movie Basmati Blues. Pearl Jam have also announced a European tour for 2018. No Irish date as yet, but surely they’ll visit our shores?

First Aid Kit – Fireworks

This is the latest track to be released from the upcoming album Ruins, due in January. First Aid Kit are old-fashioned, in that they focus on just writing great songs.

Django Django – In Your Beat

Synths abound! The Djangos sounding vital as ever on their new single

U2 – Love Is All We Have Left

Songs Of Experience was very nearly our New Album Of The Week, but we figured it’d be highlighted everywhere anyway, so we went for a different album. The opening track on SoE is one of the most affecting songs they’ve produced in years

Delorentos – In Darkness We Feel Our Way

It’s been three years since we’ve been treated to new music from these lads. ‘In Darkness We Feel Our Way’ is a bit more organic, less ‘produced’, than the 2014 album Night Becomes Light, and all the better for it. Welcome back lads

Graham Coxon – Falling

There’s a very sad story behind Coxon’s new song. It was written by his friend Luke Daniel, who, having suffered with chronic pain, chose to take his own life last year. This song will be released on vinyl on the 15th of this month, with a percentage of profits going to the charity CALM

DMX – Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Ah yeah

New Album Of The Week
Neil Young & Promise Of The Real – The Visitor

Neil Young And Promise Of The Real's 2017 album The Visitor

Ol’ Neil may as well have called this album Trump Is A Cock. Lovely live-in-the-studio sound throughout the record, one of his best in recent years

Reissue Of The Week:
The Alan Parsons Project – Eye In The Sky (Super Deluxe Edition)

Alan Parsons Project Eye In The Sky Super Deluxe Edition 2017

The Band Who Wanted To Be Pink Floyd reissue their best-known work as a deluxe package. It features 52 tracks over three CDs, including demos, B-Sides, and single edits, as well as the album across 2 vinyl LPs, a Blu-Ray disc, a piece of Alan Parsons’ beard, and one of Lenny Zakatek’s eyelashes. Older readers will remember ‘Sirius’ as the entrance theme for Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat of the WWF in the ’80s, while guitar aficionados will marvel at the solo in ‘You’re Gonna Get Your Fingers Burned’.
