New Music This Week (w/e 27/10/17)

Kevin Shields & Brian Eno – Only Once Away My Son

Ooooooo! Soundscape! Anything Kevin Shields is involved in will pique our interest. This track comes with added boffin, and has been released as part of Adult Swim‘s ’52 weeks of free music’ initiative

Queen – All Dead, All Dead (Hybrid Version)

A mix of the previously unreleased raw session version and the regular album version. A promo for the upcoming News Of The World 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, out November 17th

Franz Ferdinand – Always Ascending

If this is how they sound after losing their guitarist, maybe they should shed a few more members

Columbia Mills – We Decide

Another slice of greatness from Irish band Columbia Mills who release their debut album Safe Distance To Watch on November 10th

Morrissey – I Wish You Lonely

We weren’t overly enamoured of ‘Spent The Day In Bed’, but this one is much better. New album Low In High Places comes out on November 17th, and Moz plays Dublin’s 3Arena on February 20th

Noel Gallagher – Fort Knox

Noel’s new album has been co-produced by David Holmes, and his aesthetic dominates this track

Ezra Furman – Love You So Bad

This is the second single from Ezra‘s forthcoming album Transangelic Exodus, due February 9th. He never fails to produce interesting stuff. We love this so bad

Bob Dylan – Solid Rock (Live In London)

His Bobness has, to date, released 6 tasters from the upcoming Bootleg Series Vol. 13: Trouble No More, AKA The Jesus Years. This song houses one of his dirtiest guitar riffs ever, and was originally titled ‘Hanging On To A Solid Rock Made Before The Foundation Of The World’ i.e. God. That wouldn’t have fitted on a cassette inlay card, would it?

New Album of the Week
Fever Ray – Plunge

Fever Ray 2nd album

We featured the lead track from this last week, but we didn’t think the album would follow so soon. Nor did anyone: it was announced on Thursday and released on Friday. This is only Karen’s second album as Fever Ray, and first in nine years. She’s lost none of her class and individuality

Reissue of the Week:
Pretenders – Alone (Special Edition)

Pretenders Alone Special Edition

The original album was released just over a year ago, but has already been given the 2CD deluxe edition treatment. Disc 2 is a collection of live tracks from this year, and anyone who was lucky enough to see them on the recent tour will attest to just how formidable they still are in a live setting. Interestingly, the album cover has replaced last year’s ‘scribbly’ band logo with the classic Pretenders font. Rightly so, as it’s a classic Pretenders album
