This autumn, Concord Bicycle Group, who own the rights to R.E.M.’s back catalogue, will issue a 25th Anniversary edition of the band’s 1992 album Automatic For The People.  The news broke on R.E.M.’s official Twitter page.

There’s no defined release date yet, nor do we know what will be included in the reissue.  However, if last year’s Out Of Time Anniversary box is the template, we can expect the album remastered, a disc of demos, rare live tracks and a DVD of promo videos.  The band didn’t tour behind the album, but they did play a special gig at the 40 Watt Club in their hometown in November 1992 which was recorded.  Some tracks from this special gig turned up on b-sides over the years, so it’s possible that this concert will be included in it’s entirety as part of the boxset

Oft considered their masterpiece, Automatic is indeed an incredible piece of work, and we at RockYouLike.com are very very excited about this reissue.  We’ve put together a playlist of the rarities that could be included in the box set.  All have been officially released in some capacity, the majority as b-sides to Automatic‘s many singles.  Enjoy!
