As of yesterday, Sunday February 12th, Prince’s classic Warner Bros. catalogue is now available on all major streaming sites. While he was alive, Prince only sanctioned his music for Jay-Z’s Tidal service, so chances are this new development wouldn’t have happened were he still emanating gloriousness from every pore here on earth. Regardless, all his studio albums from 1977 to 1993, along with selected singles/E.P.s are now just a tap away. I’m actually jealous of the uninitiated, and all the great music they’re about to discover. As an introduction to his classic catalogue, I’ve put together this playlist. Prince with stabilisers, if you will.
In further Purple news, the long-awaited Deluxe Edition of the Purple Rain album is set for release on June 9th, according to Rollingstone.com, who say ...(t)he reissue pairs the newly remastered Purple Rain with “two incredible albums of previously unreleased Prince music and two complete concert films.” The exact contents of that bonus material have not yet been announced. Warners own one of the greatest reissue labels in the world with Rhino Records, so this reissue should look and sound incredible.
Peace and Be Wild.
